By CAR:

The region is easy to access from Central Europe with good motorway access to Munich and Vienna.

From the UK it is about 16 hours drive from the Channel ports.

If you are travelling from the north of England there are excellent ferry crossings from Hull and Newcastle to Holland. These put you close to the German autobahns for a "swift" drive to Austria

By TRAIN:

The region does not have the best railway links in Europe. If you decide on getting there by train, your best connection would be via Paris and Munich. Be warned the journey will be about 24 hours.

By AIR:

The best international airports for the eastern part of Slovenia is Maribor (Slovenia) – and then about ¾ of an hour by road / motorway. Adria Airways operate a service between Maribor and Southend airport UK for around € 69 each way.

Otherwise, the closest airport is Graz, Austria which has excellent connections to everywhere in Europe by Lufthansa.

Other options are

Vienna Austria – about 2½ hours by motorway

Zagreb Croatia – about 2 hours by motorway

Ljubljana Slovenia – about 2 hours by motorway.
